I think A&W is really underrated. The food here is really delicious. I grew up in Marin and haven't been coming here as often as I should be. Last night I got the chicken tenders, French fries and a root beer float. Delicious. Excited to go back for a Hamburger. When I was a kid I used to get the corn dog or hot dog, and some cheese curds. But who didn't like cheese curds when they were a kid? The woman working the drive thru was kind and courteous, and made the experience nice. Takes a little to get through the drive thru but well worth the wait, food comes out piping hot! Root beer is made on location still, and boy is it delicious! Excited to come back soon, thanks A&W.

Used to eat at A&W in California in the 70's so had to stop by. The PROS: two employees I interacted with were very nice, A grade on the wall, the papa burger was excellent, the root beer was the best I've ever had. Kinda MEH: The building has a "built in the 50's and nothing's been changed since then" which is fine with me but the bathroom could use a little sprucing up.
Disgusting. My hot dog tasted like it had been in a fryer for 3 days... Hard and rubbery. The fries tasted of burnt oil. They asked if I wanted onions on my hot dog then didn't give them to me after I said yes. The bun was dried out and tasted old. Worst fast food experience in Tacoma.
I went last night, it was so good! I can not tell you how excited I was Yelping at work and finding this place! I am from Sacramento, just moved to Galt. Growing up my dad would always take my brother and I on a Friday to the old school A&W that was on Freeport I believe. It was our time, and these are the memories I remember so vividly, so to now know this place exists in Lodi, Im making sure I do take my dad here! I found this place at the perfect time, I am pregnant and was craving a delicious burger! I had a Papa burger with a tall Root Beer, mind you it was nice and cold, but the type of cold that tastes delicious! & I also made sure to get a souvenir! I will be back, with my daughter, to show her what kind of delicious food I grew up too!
I needed a quick something/anything to eat before boarding. Starbucks didn't have my bagel bites & I noticed A&W was open. Most times I am in this airport they are closed. I figured a hot dog would be perfect. I ordered a diet coke & a plain hot dog. It was about seven or eight dollars, not a big deal. I usually don't eat the bun so the fact that it wasn't very fresh wasn't an issue. The hot dog itself was okay. The two boys working the counter earned the third star. I asked for spicy mustard & they told me they will find some. I told them no problem, I will use the yellow mustard since that's all they had in the condiment area. Would you know as I am about to squeeze yellow mustard on my hot dog, they both came to my table with packets of Gulden's! How nice was that? These boys were great. I tried to give them a few bucks & they both turned it down. I think A&W is super lucky to have these kids on their payroll. The menu has burgers, chicken strips, fries, onion rings, a few different types of hot dogs & something called cheese curds. Combo meals are available & the shakes look very good. I would return if I was in the airport and hungry.
The Papa Burger was a hit with the boyfriend. The cheesy fries are a no no, not very good fries topped with very little and not very good cheese. Due to dietary reasons we did not try the amazing pumpkin shake, but in my mind it was amazingly refreshing.
This place is obviously older and a bit run down by the appearance on the inside. The bathroom needs a complete gut because i felt like i was in a rest stop restroom. It wasn't clean and i just felt diseased coming out of there. The cashier is another story. He was one of those nice but rude through sarcasm people. I could tell he was definitely trying to be a decent person but fighting his hate of customers on the inside! E for effort though. He got into a little argument with someone behind him when he asked him for help with how to give a military discount. The food was excellent on the upside! Everything was fresh. So fresh that when I bit into my chicken strip the juice inside was so hot it squirted out and burnt my face and my sons arm who was sitting next to me and also got squirted! He was not happy! It seemed a bit pricey but it was good. At one point someone who I assumed was either the manager or owner asked if everything was good and asked if we needed anything and my son mentioned napkins. Him asking implied to me he would grab them for us but he said that he could go ask the front counter for them. I thought that was kinda awkward. Like don't ask if we need anything. Anyways they do offer military discount and the food was good so that's y I give them 4 stars, I would go back if in the area.
Stopped in for the restroom, where i should have taken the clue to ONLY used the restroom. I did order a couple root beers and a small corn dog thing. While waiting for my food i looked at the walls, kitchen customer areas and should have walked out right there. This place is inexcusably filthy. The local health department is really remiss here.
A&W is in direct competition with five other burger franchises in Columbus. They have the signature Papa burger and a couple other burgers, Coney dogs, corn dog bites, and chicken in various forms. On the side you can get fries or chill cheese fries if you are feeling adventurous. Does this menu make them better than their competitors? Well, it's not 'processed' or 'manufactured' like McDonald's and Wendy's but it's not as good tasting as either. Happily, it doesn't leave the after taste Burger King and White Castle does. Their fries leave a lot to be desired, with or without the chili cheese, and they are far behind the others here. Overall, Wendy's is last because of their labor practices. So, of the six, I would rank A&W fifth. And I don't feel bad at all about saying that, as PepsiCo owns the franchise. They'll be just fine no matter what I say. And they'll be just fine if I never eat here again. Which I probably won't.
Totally surprised at this gas station A&W..me and the kid were camping in the area but looking to eat out frugally one night..when on the way back to Sisters spotted this place..and i needed gas anyway. Very basic 1/2 of the gas station convienience store maybe 6 benches inside. Two teenange girls working Ordered the chicken strip meal and the chilli chese dog ..also some A&W rootbeer. Everything came out fast and lord help me..the chicken strips were the best i ever had. So good i tipped ..first tme ever in a fast food place. Very clean..girls were very nice..great chicken strips..will be back
Pretty decent for fast food. My kiddo got the chicken strip kids meal and the chicken is just as good as any Chic-Fil-A if not better. Their root beer is brewed here so it's very fresh & tasty! The two girls working (my receipt says Monique 4:09pm) were very sweet and got everything right. I like that the food was freshly made and not sitting in a warmer since I'm really not a fast food gal. They gave me some great coupons so I'm probably gonna come back before I leave town.
Jalapeño bottle caps are yum!
Unfortunately I'm drinking diet Root Beer nowadays, but it still goes great with a foot long Coney dog with the works and a French fry or Onion Ring. It's clean, the counter service i friendly and efficient and everything we've tried brings back the old memories of the A&W Drive-in. 4 stars and I'll be back...[Full review]
The chicken strips are really really good!!! Also, you can never go wrong with a papa burger and fries! :)
Can someone please tell me what the hell happened to good food at A&W? My sister and I were out apartment hunting and were a bit hungry so we stopped at the drive thru. I ordered a combo burger, onion rings, root beer float. My sis ordered a combo with mini corn dogs, onion rings, root beer float. So we are told it will take a fee minutes for the onion rings, ok no problem, we get to the window they say her corn dogs will take longer can we go park. Ok. We get our root beer floats or what was supposed to be root beer don't know what it was but it was horrible. Get our bag of food one order of onion rings and one order of fries. Really? Is your job that hard? We each had an onion ring OMG where is the flavor? Undercooked flour tasting onions. Horrible! Neither of us touched the fries. Hamburger, the onions were cut so thick they may as well been the burger. I took all but one off and all I tasted the rest of the day was onion. Corn dogs, no condiments so my sis went inside to get mustard, she said that didn't even help the bland dogs. I'm not sure if it was just this location or all A&W franchises. But they sucked and I will not be back anytime soon.
When George Lucas made American Graffiti in 1973 it was based on this car hop right before starting to cruise McHenry Avenue. I know, I lived it. While over the years A&W has degraded it's reputation by going from a sugar based home made at location root beer to mass produced corn syrup laden alternatives, I was surprised that the burger, fries and onion rings are the same. The burger has a unique taste just for this location. Unlike fast food spin off's this one uses the original flat grill just like the first location in Lodi that is about the same age, 112 years old now? Nice car collection, a restored '66 Camaro pulled in while we were there, enjoy our photos. This place has not changed much in decades as we used to eat here often when I was a kid. Still the same flavors and love when the Onion Ring batter gets dropped onto the fries by accident. That was never an accident and that's awesome. This is not the fast food that A&W whored out to be later, this is the real thing. PS: When George Lucas went on to write Star Wars, the Mos Eisley Spaceport was based on this A&W location.
Best chicken strips in town.....[Full review]
Get a freeze... Yum :)
