It's taken me awhile to get around to this, but if I could give the Friday Harbor House 10 stars, I would. My husband and I got married here in May. We dealt with the managers Michael and Meaghan the entire time and I could talk for days about how great they are. Friendly, caring, organized, knowledgable, fun--all of it. They don't do weddings much anymore so we considered ourselves extremely lucky to work with them and have a fantastic party on the bluff. But the food. The food was beyond fantastic. We had about 65 guests, more than half of which ordered the steak. Every single plate came out perfectly (I know they sous vide and I applaud them for that--it's the only way it could have ever been done). We had some mac and cheese, roasted cauliflower and the brussels sprouts. I literally had guests emailing me over the next week asking for that recipe. We ate every meal there that weekend (can't stress the breakfast poutine enough! Topped with the best poached egg I've ever had). Every server was fantastic, all the drinks were perfectly made. It's just a really great place from start to finish. I could go on and on. They're the best. They've done amazing things with Friday Harbor House and I can't wait to go back up soon!
Best dinner and service we've had on the island in the last 3 days we've been here. && we owe it all to our server (Micheal). He was absolutely FANTASTIC! As soon we sat down he was so charming and welcoming, making an effort to engage in conversation and making us feel "special." He was just great! His attitude and personality was refreshing after the awful experience we had at another nearby restaurant. We ordered an order of oyster appetizers and I ask if I would be able to save the shell from the Oysters since I had just purchased an air plant. I wanted to use the shell as the plants new home and as a little remembrance from our trip. Micheal went out of his was and actually washed the shells for me before we took them home! (Brownie points!) He really didn't have to, but he took that extra step. For starters we ordered the grilled Octopus, duck fat fries and raw oysters. Let me just say these appetizers were delicious and probably the best so far we've had on the island. The ingredients were fresh, flavors refreshing and complex. The chef obviously knows what's yes doing back there. It was all just perfect. Then our main entree, the grilled oyster mushroom with quinoa. OMG! Fantastic! If you're looking for something lite and refreshing, this is the dish for you. It was well seasoned, flavorful and lite, not heavy. Just right! The food was very fresh and innovative. Something different but in a good way. All in all we were pleasantly surprised. I'm giving them a 5 star because the food and service was quality! And I would definitely come back and do it all over again. Thank you to Micheal for your great customer service! Update Review #2 (10/15/16) If I wasn't already a fan of this place before, let me tell you how much of a fan I was tonight. First off, I did request to have Micheal again as our waiter when we made our reservations. Let me explain. We honestly tried to find another restaurant to have our last dinner on the island, but when we thought about the quality of food and the excellent service we were wanting, we just couldn't resist and came back for another night. First off before we even placed an order Michael remembered to the T what we had the night before and asked if we wanted the same, we (again) had the grilled octopus, raw oysters and brussel sprouts. My boyfriend and I both ordered the ribeye for our entrees. My boyfriend like his raw (still mooing ), while I prefer mine rare- medium rare. As we munched on our appetizers and sipped on our drinks we were joined by our waiter Michael with some lite conversation and laughs (did I mention how much I really like this guy). As our appetizers ended and our entrees finally reaching our table, we were shocked and saddened to find out as we cutted into our steaks, both were cooked incorrectly mine was was cooked into a medium- well and my boyfriend's was cooked medium-rare . But before we even got the chance to mourn our over cooked steaks.. In comes Micheal to check on us. We told him our steak issues, I ended up swapping with my boyfriend and quickly he wisked away the over cooked steak into the kitchen. As we waited he graciously placed the untouched veggies on another plate for my boyfriend to eat while waiting for his (still mooing) steak. When his steak finally came it was cooked (or not cooked lol) to perfection. Perfectly rare... And with all the fixings in it, like a whole nother meal Lol. Surprisingly another gentleman approached us (guessing the GM, super nice guy as well) and told is that he would take care of the mishap and took the steak off the bill. I was already sold at that point. Like I said this place was just amazing. I haven't had service like this in a while. And to top it off Michael brought us a thank you dessert at the end of dinner on him just to top off the night. Thank you Michael and to the Friday Harbor House Staff for your hospitality while we were here on the island. You guys have given us all the comforts of home plus more!
Phenomenal!!! Best burger I've ever had. Amazing Brussel sprouts. Great drinks. Exceptional service. The best food on the island!!!
We enjoyed dinner at the new Friday Harbor House restaurant last Saturday and it was excellent. We started with local mussels that were some of the best I've ever had - fresh from the island and served with a delicate kimchi broth. We split the wild salmon and ribeye for dinner, and added on a side of Brussel sprouts that were extra crispy and delicious. Our server was very gracious and helpful in selecting items and wine. The views are wonderful - it was too bad it was raining, otherwise we would've sat outside to so we could look right over the harbor. Can't wait to go back.
Not only is this the best view in Friday Harbor, but it also is the best restaurant in my opinion!! We came for a late lunch and were fairly hungry, so I had the Manilla Clams as an appetizer and we both had one of their burgers. I had the bluff burger, which was delicious, and my girlfriend had the Shrimp and Avocado salad. The salad was excellent as well (as I was lucky to be given a few bites). We sat outside on the terrace and service was very friendly with no rush, even though this is a popular (and rightfully so ) spot!!!
Another spot with a decent view. We weren't able to sit outside due to the weather but the view from the inside was still enjoyable. We were able to watch quite a few yachts and fishing vessels bop around the water. They open at 5pm BUT only serve happy hour till 6pm and then dinner kicks off. If your group just wants to enjoy some beverages and the view for a little bit then tackle the dinner menu then this should do the trick for you. We had a few of their HH options. I enjoyed my shoestring style fries. They were crispy and salty... everything I expected and their truffle ketchup was decent enough. I also had their beef sliders which were your typical slider. I didn't care for the chicken sliders and the few other HH dishes I sampled but I enjoyed my chocolate coffee cake for dessert. The caramel sauce was delicious and the coffee ice cream was a great flavor to combine with the chocolate cake and the caramel sauce. I only wish the cake was at least warmed up. It just felt like it should have been warm and it interrupted that first moment of enjoyment when I realized it was kinda cold. Not a big deal by any means but just something that would have taken this dessert to the next level. Our server was friendly and on the ball with taking our orders and keeping my water refilled. He recommended a HH wine to the lady friend and she loved it. Judging from the reactions of other diners enjoying their first sips of various recommended wines I'd say this spot and their servers have a good selection of wine and make good recommendations to their patrons. I'm a fan.
Had the 5 course tasting menu and dinner was fantastic! Our meal consisted of: Cauliflower Bisque Grilled Romaine Northwest Caesar Salad Grilled Pork Tenderloin Steak Frites served with truffle ketchup..... unreal! Rhubarb Crisp à la Mode Chocolate Coffee Cake- the only thing that didn't really wow us. Good but not great. All portions were perfect and we felt just right when leaving. This place has their food down and we would return again anytime! The small downsides at The Bluff, service and indoor ambiance. If you sit outside the view is beautiful, inside is pretty plain & non dis-script, very cafe like. Service, it's not terrible but nearly every server we encountered was quite cold & not friendly.
